Director of the Public-Private Partnership Development Agency Zakir Bozorov made an announcement on the Tashkent-Andijan and Tashkent-Samarkand toll highways that are slated to be completed by 2026.
According to the relevant documents, 5 large projects are planned to be implemented in the transport system of Uzbekistan in 2022-2026:
- Tashkent-Andijan toll highway construction project supported by the World Bank;
- Tashkent-Samarkand toll highway construction project supported by the EBRD;
- The project of construction of a 66 km highway between the cities of Samarkand and Shahrisabz and a 4.4 km tunnel at Takhtaqoracha pass.
The construction of the first toll roads in Uzbekistan was announced in 2018. At that time, it was said that the German company GP Günter Papenburg could be involved in the construction of the first such roads. In 2019, the Committee of Motorways announced that a place was being selected for the construction of the first toll road in Uzbekistan.
