Uzbekistan and Serbia agreed to develop a free trade agreement and adopted a joint action plan for industrial partnership for 2026–2028 during President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s first visit to Belgrade.
Mirziyoyev and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic held talks at the Palace of Serbia in Belgrade, discussing the expansion of political, trade, economic, investment and humanitarian cooperation. The sides agreed to increase bilateral trade by expanding supplies of goods in high demand, while highlighting the importance of cooperation in standardization and organizing mutual trade exhibitions. Work on a free trade agreement was also identified as a priority.
The talks covered potential joint projects in transport and logistics, light and food industries, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, healthcare and the digital economy. The sides also identified opportunities for industrial cooperation in the production of automotive components, equipment, electrical appliances and electronics.
A 2026–2028 Joint Action Plan for the Development of Industrial Partnership was adopted to support implementation of the agreements reached between the two countries. The two sides also discussed regional cooperation. Direct ties have been established between Samarkand Region and Vojvodina, as well as between Samarkand and Novi Sad.
Cooperation in education, culture, sports and tourism was also discussed, including joint cultural days, film, theatre and music festivals and direct links between sports federations. Labor mobility was another issue on the agenda. The presidents welcomed the adoption of an agreement on labour mobility and migration, with Serbia expressing interest in establishing systematic cooperation in the field.
Uzbekistan is also set to participate with a national pavilion at EXPO 2027 in Belgrade. The sides agreed to adopt a comprehensive roadmap to ensure the timely and effective implementation of the agreements, decisions and other arrangements reached during the talks.
