Construction of a new passenger terminal at Andijan International Airport is continuing, with completion scheduled for the end of 2026, Uzbekistan Airports reported following a press tour organized for journalists. The new terminal will cover 19,650 square meters, making it approximately 8.2 times larger than the existing airport complex, which was built in 1979. Once commissioned, the facility is expected to increase the airport’s passenger handling capacity fivefold.
The existing terminal can process approximately 200 passengers per hour, while the new facility is designed to handle up to 1,000 passengers per hour. Following completion of the project, Andijan International Airport is expected to have capacity to serve around 1mn passengers annually. As of August 17, construction of the new terminal was approximately 40% complete.
Work on the drainage system, foundation preparation and foundation concrete pouring has been fully completed. Installation of the terminal module’s metal structures, covering 13,104 square meters, has also been completed. Concreting work on the first-floor slab and installation of the reinforcement cage are approximately 90% complete.
The contract for construction and installation work was awarded on February 5, 2026, following a tender. PRIME TOWER GROUP is serving as the project’s general designer, while MARIN BUSINESS TRADE is carrying out construction as the contractor. Uzbekistan Airports is implementing the terminal project independently, without the involvement of a private investor. Construction of the passenger terminal follows a broader reconstruction of Andijan International Airport’s airfield infrastructure, which was completed in March 2025.
As part of the earlier reconstruction, the airport’s runway, taxiways and aircraft parking area were expanded. New airfield lighting equipment was also installed. Further modernization of the airport is continuing alongside construction of the passenger terminal. The current plans include the development of 10 parking bays capable of accommodating large aircraft. Two additional taxiways are also being created, including one high-speed taxiway. The infrastructure is intended to support increased aircraft movements and passenger traffic as the airport’s handling capacity expands.
The new terminal represents the next stage of the airport’s modernization following the reconstruction of the airfield complex. With capacity increasing from 200 to 1,000 passengers per hour, the facility is expected to raise Andijan International Airport’s annual passenger handling capacity to approximately 1mn once construction is completed at the end of 2026.
