The number of operating enterprises and organizations in Uzbekistan reached 596,856 as of July 1, 2026, marking a 7.2% increase from a year earlier, while foreign-invested companies climbed by 22.9% to 20,502, according to the National Statistics Committee.
The committee said 440,140 of the country's operating entities were business enterprises, while 435,402 qualified as small businesses and microfirms, representing 72.9% of all operating enterprises excluding farms and dehkan (farmer) households.
Regionally, Tashkent city accounted for the largest share of operating enterprises with 113,573 entities, or 19% of the national total, followed by Tashkent region (9.4%), Samarkand (9.2%), Fergana (8.5%) and Kashkadarya (7.7%).
Trade remained the country's largest business sector, representing 27.3% of all operating enterprises, ahead of agriculture, forestry and fisheries (21.9%) and industry (10.6%). Together, these three sectors accounted for nearly 60% of all registered enterprises.
Among business entities, limited liability companies continued to dominate Uzbekistan's corporate landscape, accounting for 351,586 firms, or 79.9% of all active commercial enterprises. Private enterprises made up 10.7%, while family businesses represented 8.5%.
The number of enterprises with foreign investment reached 20,502, including 4,611 joint ventures and 15,891 wholly foreign-owned companies. Tashkent city hosted 62.5% of all foreign-invested enterprises, followed by Tashkent region (13.8%), Samarkand (3.6%) and Fergana (3.2%).
Compared with the same period last year, the number of foreign-invested enterprises increased by 3,817, driven mainly by growth in trade, where the number of firms rose from 6,038 to 7,289, industry (from 3,450 to 4,031) and construction (from 1,256 to 1,689).
China remained the largest source of foreign-invested businesses in Uzbekistan, with 6,060 companies, accounting for 29.6% of the total. It was followed by Russia with 3,454 companies (16.8%), Turkiye with 2,293 (11.2%), Kazakhstan with 1,307 (6.4%), South Korea with 725 (3.5%) and Afghanistan with 685 (3.3%).
The National Statistics Committee noted that the Unified State Register of Enterprises and Organizations is updated in real time using data received from registration authorities through an automated system, providing the basis for official business demography statistics in Uzbekistan.
