Tashkent authorities have unveiled plans for the "Daryo bo‘yi Business City" (Riverside Business City) project, a large-scale urban development initiative aimed at transforming a 24-kilometer section of the Chirchik River and creating new residential, commercial and recreational areas in the capital, according to Tashkent City Administration.
The project was presented in Bektemir district during a meeting attended by senior government and city officials, including Timur Butunbayev, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration for Water Supply System Reform Issues, and Tashkent Mayor Shavkat Umurzakov.
According to city authorities, the project is designed to improve quality of life, expand urban space and create new opportunities for residents through the development of modern infrastructure, public spaces and economic activity zones.
Plans include the comprehensive redevelopment of both sides of the riverbank, the construction of modern residential and business districts, and the expansion of transport and engineering infrastructure along the corridor.
Officials said the initiative is intended to support housing development, create new jobs and stimulate growth in tourism, trade, services and entrepreneurship.
The presentation also included discussions on a separate project to create 12 artificial lakes across Tashkent, which authorities view as part of broader efforts to enhance the city's recreational and environmental infrastructure.
According to the concept, the riverside development would help unlock the potential of currently underutilized waterfront areas while improving connectivity between new residential neighborhoods, business districts and existing urban infrastructure.
Special emphasis is being placed on public convenience, transport accessibility, utility networks, green spaces and environmental sustainability. The project also envisions the creation of open public areas designed for recreation, walking and family leisure activities.
During the review, officials examined the proposed design solutions and discussed ways to further improve the concept, taking into account public convenience, safety, environmental considerations and economic efficiency.
Authorities described the project as one of the capital's major urban development initiatives and said it aims to create new attractions for both residents and visitors while supporting Tashkent's long-term growth.
The "Daryo bo‘yi Business City" proposal comes amid a broader wave of urban development projects reshaping the capital and surrounding areas. Authorities are advancing plans for New Tashkent, a large-scale urban expansion project that includes new residential districts, cultural facilities and infrastructure intended to support long-term population and economic growth.
Among the flagship initiatives is the planned "Great Silk Road" complex, which is expected to become a major cultural and tourism destination within New Tashkent. The project forms part of wider efforts to create new urban centers while expanding public spaces, transport links and social infrastructure.
At the same time, Uzbekistan is moving forward with plans for a new international airport in Tashkent under a public-private partnership model. The project is expected to increase aviation capacity, improve regional connectivity and support the development of surrounding commercial and residential areas, complementing the capital's broader urban transformation strategy.
