Uzbekneftegaz and BP discussed plans to accelerate the implementation of a joint oil and gas project in Uzbekistan’s Ustyurt region during meetings held on the sidelines of Baku Energy Week 2026, according to the state-owned company’s press service.
The discussions took place between Chairman of the Management Board of Uzbekneftegaz Abdugani Sanginov and BP executives, including Executive Vice President for Production and Operations Gordon Birrell and Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey Giovanni Cristofoli.
The parties reviewed progress on their joint project in the Ustyurt region, which is being implemented under a detailed action plan extending through 2029. Particular attention was given to the timeline for interpreting geophysical data, with discussions focused on revising the schedule to support faster project implementation.
During the meeting, Sanginov proposed exploring the possibility of beginning drilling operations by the end of 2027. The parties also discussed options for optimizing project stages and accelerating practical activities related to the development.
BP representatives reaffirmed the company’s long-term interest in operating in Uzbekistan. According to the company, its participation in the Uzbek market is based on a long-term strategic approach rather than short-term objectives.
The discussions also covered the application of modern technologies in Uzbekistan’s oil and gas sector. Sanginov noted the need for updated technological solutions across various stages of the industry, including drilling, production, and refining processes.
In response, BP outlined its capabilities in advanced seismic data analysis, including the use of high-performance computing systems and modern analytical algorithms. Company representatives stated that these technologies could support geological exploration and project development activities in Uzbekistan.
The parties also exchanged views on the potential introduction of digital technologies and advanced data-processing tools within the country’s oil and gas industry as part of broader efforts to improve operational efficiency and project implementation.
