Uzbekistan has named a 30-player extended squad for its upcoming training camp in the United States as preparations continue for the country’s historic debut at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Head coach Fabio Cannavaro is expected to finalize the national team’s 26-player tournament squad before the start of the competition. Uzbekistan will leave for New York on May 26.
The extended lineup includes several of Uzbekistan’s best-known players, including Manchester City defender Abduqodir Husanov, captain Eldor Shomurodov, Abbosbek Fayzullayev and Jaloliddin Masharipov. Husanov is expected to join the squad directly in the United States.
The team will play two international friendlies during the camp — against Canada on June 1 and the Netherlands on June 8 — before Cannavaro confirms the final roster.
Uzbekistan will open its World Cup campaign on June 18 against Colombia at Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium.
The national team will then face Portugal on June 23 in Houston before concluding the group stage against the Democratic Republic of Congo on June 28 in Atlanta.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada. Uzbekistan secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup earlier this year, marking the country’s first appearance at football’s biggest tournament.
The upcoming group-stage clash with Portugal is expected to attract particular attention, with Uzbekistan set to face a side led by Cristiano Ronaldo.
The team’s qualification has sparked widespread excitement in Uzbekistan, with the national side preparing to represent the country at the World Cup for the first time.
