FIFA has updated its national team rankings following the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, placing Uzbekistan 52nd with 1,462.03 points, two places lower than last month, while the team remains among Asia’s top five national sides.
Uzbekistan did not hold a training camp in January under head coach Fabio Cannavaro, which resulted in no additional ranking points being added during the period.
Uzbekistan remains among Asia’s top five national teams despite the slight decline. Japan leads the continent with 1,650.12 points, followed by Iran (1,617.02), South Korea (1,599.45), and Australia (1,574.01).
Among Uzbekistan’s opponents in the 2026 World Cup Group K, Portugal is ranked sixth globally with 1,760.38 points, while Colombia holds 14th place with 1,701.30 points. Another potential rival, DR Congo, is ranked 48th with 1,468.22 points. Jamaica currently sits 70th with 1,362.46 points, while New Caledonia occupies 150th place with 1,042.62 points.
At the top of the global rankings, Spain leads with 1,877.18 points. Reigning world champions Argentina follow closely in second place with 1,873.33 points, while France completes the top three with 1,870 points.
Africa Cup of Nations winners Senegal climbed to 13th place with 1,706.83 points, while runners-up Morocco moved up three positions to eighth with 1,736.57 points.
It was earlier reported that Uzbekistan’s national football team is set to face Canada in a friendly match on June 1, as a part of its preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In October, 2025, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan have been confirmed as joint hosts of the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup, with state institutions assigned to bring infrastructure, logistics, and related services into compliance with FIFA requirements.
