Shirak Avia plans to launch direct passenger flights between Tashkent and Yerevan, marking the potential restoration of scheduled air connectivity between Uzbekistan and Armenia after several decades, as to the press service of Uzbekistan Airports.
The airline intends to operate one weekly flight starting in May using Boeing 737 aircraft. If implemented, the route will provide the first regular direct air service between the capitals of the two countries in many years.
At present, passengers traveling between Tashkent and Yerevan rely on connecting flights, with common transit points including Moscow, Tbilisi, and Istanbul. The introduction of a direct route is expected to reduce travel time and simplify passenger movement between the two capitals.
The development of air connectivity between Uzbekistan and Armenia has been discussed in previous years. In November 2017, then Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov and then Prime Minister of Armenia Karen Karapetyan considered the possibility of establishing direct flights, alongside broader cooperation topics including economic collaboration.
Shirak Avia, founded in 2019 and based at Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan, currently operates a fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft and primarily serves routes to destinations in Russia. The planned Tashkent–Yerevan service would expand its international network into Central Asia.
