Talgo, the Spanish high-speed rail company, has signed a ten-year maintenance contract worth nearly €80mn with Uzbekistan’s public railway company (UTY) for its six Talgo 250 trains.
The contract covers the country’s six Talgo 250 high-speed trains, marking Talgo’s largest maintenance deal in Uzbekistan to date.
The agreement continues a partnership that has spanned over 15 years, establishing Talgo’s technology as a key component of Uzbekistan’s rail network.
The Talgo 250 trains, which operate at a maximum commercial speed of 230 km/h, have been in service in Uzbekistan since 2011. The fleet includes trains acquired under contracts in 2009, 2011, and 2019, with the latest units entering service in 2021.
Talgo’s trains in Uzbekistan use natural pendulation technology, allowing higher speeds on curves. Unlike their Spanish counterparts, the trains operate exclusively on Uzbekistan’s Russian broad gauge tracks (1,520 mm).
The contract reinforces Talgo’s role as a strategic partner of UTY and ensures the fleet’s reliability and availability over the next decade.
Talgo, a global leader in high-speed and intercity rail, has industrial operations in Spain, Germany, Denmark, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and the United States.
The company supplies high-speed trains to Renfe in Spain, the Haramain project in Saudi Arabia, and several European rail operators.
