President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedow in Ashgabat on December 11, to discuss ongoing cooperation and the implementation of previously reached agreements between the two countries, reports press service of the president of Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, President Mirziyoyev extended congratulations to the Turkmen leader and the people of Turkmenistan on several key occasions: the 30th anniversary of the country’s declaration of neutrality, the successful organization of the international forum dedicated to this milestone, and the designation of 2025 as the “International Year of Peace and Trust.”
Both sides reviewed progress made since the Turkmen President’s recent state visit to Uzbekistan. Particular focus was placed on expanding the strategic partnership and ensuring the practical execution of the agreements reached during that visit.
As per to the discussion, economic cooperation continues to grow. Mutual trade between the two countries has approached $1bn since the beginning of the 2025. The “Shovot–Toshoguz” border trade zone is functioning effectively, supporting increased commercial activity. Cargo transportation volumes have risen by 30%, with a an increase in shipments routed through the Turkmenbashi port. Humanitarian cooperation and interregional exchanges are also ongoing.
The presidents highlighted the importance of strengthening coordination ahead of upcoming meetings of the Intergovernmental Commission, the Business Council, and the Regional Forum. These platforms are expected to consider measures aimed at significantly expanding trade turnover and advancing joint projects across various sectors, including energy, agriculture, transport, and other key areas of the economy.
