The World Health Organization (WHO) is set to host a policy dialogue in Uzbekistan titled “Strengthening Human Resources for Health in Uzbekistan”, aimed at strengthening the country's health and care workforce. The event is jointly organized with the Ministry of Health and the Center for Health Care Projects.
The dialogue will bring together national and international stakeholders to assess ongoing health reforms and set strategic priorities for building a resilient workforce. Family doctors, nurses, and midwives—key roles in primary health care—will be a particular focus.
Human resources are central to Uzbekistan's health system transformation. As the country advances reforms in primary care and medical education, building a resilient and gender-responsive workforce is critical for achieving universal health coverage. Gender perspectives will also be integrated into workforce planning to ensure equity and fair opportunities for all health workers.
The dialogue will include senior representatives from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Digital Technologies, regional health authorities, academic institutions, and development partners. Discussions will cover:
- Findings and recommendations from the health labor market analysis report.
- Results of health workforce forecasting and planning activities.
- Roadmap for human resources for health information systems and next steps.
- Strengthening multisectoral coordination and commitment to an equitable and resilient workforce.
Through open dialogue, evidence-based planning, and collaboration, Uzbekistan is working to create a health system that is fair, effective, and centered on the needs of people. This policy dialogue is part of a wider WHO-led mission supporting improvements in health policy, workforce planning, and medical education.
