President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Director-General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who is in Uzbekistan on an official visit. The talks focused on expanding cooperation in modernising and strengthening the country’s healthcare system.
Both sides reviewed ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan’s health sector and noted that cooperation with WHO has reached a new qualitative level in recent years. Large-scale systemic reforms are being implemented with the organization’s expert and advisory support, in line with international standards and recommendations.
The meeting highlighted progress in developing strategic healthcare policies, improving primary healthcare services, and strengthening disease diagnosis and prevention systems. Efforts are also underway to train qualified medical personnel and introduce state medical insurance mechanisms.
The WHO Director-General praised the reforms, pointing to measurable improvements in access to healthcare services, increased life expectancy, reductions in maternal mortality, and advancements in digital medicine across the country.
Following the discussions, both sides agreed to further deepen practical cooperation in key priority areas. These include improving pharmaceutical regulation, expanding the use of digital solutions and artificial intelligence in healthcare, and launching joint scientific research and professional events.
The meeting reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s commitment to continuing close cooperation with WHO in advancing long-term healthcare reforms and improving public health outcomes.
