A Chinese technology firm is set to assist in upgrading public transport infrastructure in Karakalpakstan, Uzbekistan, according to the Council of Ministers of the autonomous republic.

During a recent visit to Nukus, Farhod Ermanov, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Karakalpakstan, met with a delegation led by Ray Hung, Chairman of Datatek Group and Datatek Technology.
The two sides discussed cooperation in the introduction of environmentally friendly transport solutions, the development of digital payment systems, and the application of global best practices tailored to the region’s needs.
The Chinese delegation expressed readiness to launch large-scale initiatives using advanced technologies and financial investment. As part of the first phase of cooperation, both parties agreed to work on joint projects that include the acquisition of modern buses and the implementation of digital traffic management systems.
This initiative aligns with Uzbekistan’s broader efforts to upgrade its public transport network. In recent months, several cities across the country have received new fleets of Chinese-made buses. These include:
- Bukhara, which received 24 Zhongtong buses in May, with 12 more expected by the end of June.
- Urgench, which welcomed 30 Zhongtong buses.
- Namangan, which added 30 Zhongtong buses to its fleet in March.
- Angren, where 15 Yutong buses were recently delivered.
