The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is advancing financial inclusion and climate sustainability in the Kyrgyz Republic through a new $8mn (€7.6mn) package for FINCA Bank Kyrgyzstan, a key player in the country’s microfinance sector.

Half of the funding—$4mn—is being allocated through the EBRD’s Women in Business (WiB) programme for Central Asia, which is backed by the Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative.
This component will support women-led and women-owned small businesses, helping them grow and gain better access to finance in a traditionally underserved segment.
The remaining $4mn is provided under the Green Economy Financing Facility III (KyrSEFF III), which was approved by EBRD shareholders in late 2022. This initiative aims to strengthen climate resilience and sustainability by improving energy and resource efficiency, reducing pollution, and encouraging better water usage among local SMEs.
FINCA Bank Kyrgyzstan, active in the country since 1995, is part of the global FINCA Impact Finance network, which focuses on advancing financial inclusion through socially responsible microfinance.
Since launching operations in the Kyrgyz Republic in 1992, the EBRD has invested more than €1bn across 257 projects, with a strong focus on the private sector and sustainable infrastructure.
Earlier, Osh, known as the southern capital of Kyrgyzstan become a member of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development’s (EBRD) Green Cities programme.
