Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Italy in the first quarter of 2025, amounted to $4.4bn. Italy also ranks among Kazakhstan’s top five EU investors, having contributed $7.6bn to the Kazakh economy over the past two decades.

These figures were highlighted by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov during his speech at the Kazakhstan–Italy Business Forum, where he emphasized the strategic partnership’s steady growth and broadening scope.
Addressing business leaders and officials from both countries, Bektenov noted that bilateral trade grew by 25% in 2024, reaching nearly $20bn, with Kazakhstani exports accounting for over $18bn.
The PM stressed the importance of ongoing cooperation in key sectors such as energy, mechanical engineering, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and agriculture. He pointed to successful Italian investments supporting projects in oil and gas, green energy, and manufacturing.

Kazakhstan is actively enhancing its transport and logistics infrastructure to boost its role in global trade. Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov highlighted the opportunity for Kazakhstan and Italy to work together on building more resilient and diversified supply chains. He also emphasized Kazakhstan’s focus on transitioning to a high-tech, value-added economy and reaffirmed the government’s readiness to support Italian investors in launching joint projects.
“The Government of Kazakhstan is carrying out systematic work to enhance the country’s investment attractiveness,” Bektenov said. “We invite Italian businesses to expand their presence in Kazakhstan and actively participate in joint projects in priority sectors of the economy.”
The government’s support for Italian investors ranges from tax and customs benefits to in-kind grants and infrastructure development assistance. Bektenov also noted that investor feedback continues to shape reforms aimed at creating long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships.
From the Italian side, the forum featured remarks by high-level officials, including Marco Osnato, Chair of the Finance Committee of the Chamber of Deputies; Valentino Valentini, Deputy Minister for Enterprises and “Made in Italy” Products; Giulio Terzi di Sant'Agata, Chair of the Senate Committee on EU Policy; and Ambassador Antonello De Riu.
A number of cooperation agreements are expected to be signed following the forum.
