AD Ports Group, a global leader in logistics, trade, and industrial services, has partnered with Kazakhstan-based developer SEMURG INVEST to construct and operate a grain terminal at the Port of Kuryk in the Mangistau region of Kazakhstan. The agreement was formalized on January 14 during Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s visit to the UAE, as part of the Abu Dhabi Sustainable Development Week Summit.
Under the memorandum, AD Ports Group will become a co-founder of Sarzha Grain Terminal, a subsidiary of SEMURG INVEST, which owns and develops the Sarzha Multifunctional Marine Terminal at Kuryk Port. The project’s initial phase will include a terminal with a capacity of 570,000 tonnes per year, with future expansion planned to reach 1.5 mn tonnes annually. The terminal aims to enhance global trade in food products by connecting Kazakhstan with Europe and other regions through an integrated network of sea and dry ports across Central Asia.
President Tokayev emphasized Kazakhstan’s strategic focus on digitalization, AI, infrastructure development, and nuclear energy to address global challenges. In his remarks, he underscored the importance of international partnerships in achieving these goals.
Arab investors also expressed interest in constructing a universal terminal at Kuryk Port, with parties signing an Exclusive Cooperation Agreement for the development of a multifunctional terminal.
Abdulaziz Zayed Al Shamisi, Regional General Manager of AD Ports Group for Central Asia and Eastern Europe, stated, “The capacity of the Sarzha grain terminal will significantly increase trade volumes and grain transshipment at Kuryk Port, establishing a sustainable food supply chain for countries worldwide.”
Nurzhan Marabayev, CEO of SEMURG INVEST, highlighted the strategic significance of the partnership, saying, “This collaboration marks a new milestone in developing the Middle Corridor and aligns with Kazakhstan’s vision to enhance its transport and logistics potential by 2030.”
The Sarzha Grain Terminal project is set to diversify Kazakhstan’s export routes, boost the Middle Corridor’s transit potential, and drive economic growth in the Mangistau region.
