Several South Korean companies are planning to implement investment projects in Karakalpakstan. This comes after a visit by a delegation from the region, led by the Chairman of the Jokargy Kenes (Supreme Council), Amanbay Orinbayev, to South Korea. The delegation participated in a forum on regional cooperation with Central Asia and met with representatives from South Korean businesses to explore potential partnerships.
During the visit, Kim Do Hoon, president of agricultural machinery manufacturer TYM, engaged in discussions with the delegation about opportunities to establish production facilities in Karakalpakstan. This would include developing a local service network and offering training programs for local specialists.
Orinbayev and his team also held productive talks with Jin Park, head of Acryl Company, regarding expanding cooperation in the information technology sector. A key outcome of this meeting was an agreement to establish IT centers aimed at training a skilled workforce in the region.
Among the most agreements made during the visit was with KIDL, which plans to invest $62mn in the creation of modern greenhouses in Karakalpakstan. The project will support the development of the region's agricultural sector, bringing advanced technology and sustainable practices to the area.
Another key discussion was held with representatives of People & Dream Co., focusing on labor migration and the opening of mono-centers that will provide migrant workers with training in various professions and foreign languages.
The National Agency for Development of Information Technologies also made a commitment to provide computers for schools in Karakalpakstan, supporting the region's educational infrastructure. In addition, there were talks on securing grants from the Green Climate Fund for "green" projects and introducing water-saving technologies, in collaboration with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
Furthermore, Orinbayev discussed the creation of a women’s training center in Nukus, which will be developed in partnership with the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF), Sookmyung Women’s University, and the Hyundai Research Institute. The project, valued at $38mn, aims to provide women in the region with professional training and skills development.
