The World Bank (WB) has financed 116 priority projects in Tajikistan over 31 years, with a total investment of $2.9bn. This was highlighted during a meeting between Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and Anna Bjerde, Managing Director of the World Bank for Operations, held in New York.
The projects supported by the WB cover multiple sectors, including social services, transportation, energy, and agriculture. During the meeting, President Rahmon acknowledged the World Bank as one of Tajikistan’s key development partners and discussed ways to mobilize further resources to advance the country’s economic and social development.
The discussions also touched on Tajikistan’s hydropower potential, industrial development, and efforts to enhance access to green energy while promoting a green economy. Rahmon specifically thanked the World Bank for its support in financing the completion of the Rogun hydropower plant.
The president also emphasized Tajikistan’s wealth in natural resources, particularly in renewable energy and agriculture, and called for increased international financial and technical support to further unlock this potential.
Rahmon's visit to New York coincided with his participation in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly on September 22.
