The Taliban’s Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation has announced that 4,233 Afghan migrants have returned to Afghanistan from Pakistan and Iran over the past three days, Afghanistan International reported.
On July 20, the ministry reported that 729 returnees came from Pakistan, while 3,504 arrived from Iran. These returns occurred through the Torkham, Spin Boldak, Islam Qala, and Pul-e-Abrisham border crossings.
According to the ministry, the majority of these returnees are Afghan families who had been residing in Iran and Pakistan, including many children and women.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Refugees claims that these migrants returned voluntarily or were compelled by the host countries to do so. However, there have been accounts from Afghan migrants indicating that they were detained by police in Pakistan and Iran before being forcibly returned to Afghanistan.
This development follows reports that both Pakistan and Iran have ramped up the expulsion of undocumented Afghan migrants. The Taliban ministry has noted a consistent return of over a thousand Afghan migrants from these countries each week.
