The life expectancy at birth for Kazakh citizens reached 75.09 years in 2023, marking a notable milestone as the highest figure recorded in the past 25 years, The Bureau of National Statistics reports. During the pandemic in 2020-2021, this indicator experienced a decline after a prolonged upward trend and then recovered again.
People living in urban areas tend to have a higher life expectancy compared to those in rural areas, with figures standing at 75.73 years and 74.02 years, respectively. Women’s life expectancy grew to 79.06 years, while men’s expectancy reached 70.99 years.
Almaty city recorded the highest life expectancy at birth of 78.28 years, whereas the Ulytau Region registered the lowest figure of 72.41 years.
Earlier, Daryo reported that Kazakhstan ranked 67th out of 193 countries and territories worldwide in the Very High Human Development category, as per the report released by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Kazakhstan experienced notable gains in all major indicators between 1990 and 2022. Expected years of schooling grew by 2.6 years, mean years of education climbed by 4.9 years, and life expectancy at birth increased by 4.6 years. Kazakhstan’s Gross National Income (GNI) per capita surged by nearly 61.7% during the same period.
