President Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan welcomed Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia on April 15, during the latter's visit to Uzbekistan as part of the meeting of foreign ministers from Central Asia and the Gulf Arab states, presidential press service informed.
The meeting commenced with Prince Faisal conveying sincere greetings and best wishes from King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud to President Mirziyoyev. Discussions revolved around expanding multilateral relations and advancing the extensive partnership between Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia, focusing on the implementation of previously agreed-upon initiatives at the highest levels of government.
Priority cooperation projects span diverse sectors, including green energy, agriculture, healthcare, modernization of transport infrastructure, and information technology. Attention was also directed towards future events, particularly the careful preparations for the second summit of the "Central Asia-Gulf Arab States Cooperation Council," scheduled for 2025.
Additionally, discussions encompassed key regional issues, such as the situation in Afghanistan and efforts towards a peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue.
Earlier Daryo reported that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan met with a delegation from Saudi Arabia on November 27, 2023 led by Khalid al-Falikh, the head of the Saudi Investment Ministry. The visit resulted in the signing of agreements for joint projects in various sectors including chemical, energy, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, IT, and infrastructure development. The total value of these projects is $12 bn.
