Türkiye has announced, on April 5, the cancellation of the visa-free regime for citizens of Tajikistan. Previously, Tajik nationals enjoyed the privilege of staying in Türkiye without a visa for up to 30 days for tourism purposes. However, recent reports from Asia-Plus, citing comments from the Tajik Ministry's press secretary Shokhin Samadi, indicate that this arrangement has been altered without prior notification to Tajikistan.
Samadi stated, "We note that the Tajik side has not yet received such information through diplomatic channels."
In light of this situation, Tajik authorities are advising citizens planning to visit Türkiye to take necessary precautions. Samadi emphasized,
"Before receiving official information from the Turkish side, we recommend that citizens of Tajikistan intending to visit Turkey carefully prepare the necessary documents for the planned trip."
Additionally, Tajik citizens considering Türkiye as a transit route to other destinations are encouraged to explore alternative travel routes, bypassing Türkiye altogether.
Samadi hinted at a potential reciprocal response from Tajikistan, stating that "Tajikistan, in accordance with the principle of reciprocity, is considering the issue of introducing a visa regime for Turkish citizens."
