Putin acknowledged Navalny's demise as a "sad event" and disclosed that he had agreed to exchange Navalny for Russian prisoners held in the West just days before the politician's death. Putin elaborated that although discussions were underway for Navalny's exchange, he stipulated that Navalny would not return to Russia if released. Regarding Nadezhdin's exclusion from the election, Putin attributed it to deficiencies in Nadezhdin's campaign preparation and emphasized the necessity for a requisite number of votes for participation.
