Uzbek diplomats engaged in talks with Louis Colwell, the head of the Department of Business and Trade of Great Britain about crucial matters concerning Uzbekistan's aspiration for World Trade Organization (WTO) membership and strategies to bolster export volumes, Dunyo reports.
During the dialogue, Uzbek representatives apprised their British counterparts of recent advancements in market access protocols. Notably, Uzbekistan inked agreements with three countries—Japan, Israel, and the Dominican Republic—during the 13th meeting of WTO member state ministers convened in Abu Dhabi from February 26 to 29. Additionally, updates regarding negotiations with Thailand were communicated, signifying proactive efforts to broaden trade horizons.
British Endorsement and Commitment to Support Uzbekistan's WTO Aspirations
The British delegation expressed commendation for Uzbekistan's swift strides towards WTO accession and affirmed its steadfast support for the nation's endeavors in this realm. Assurances were provided regarding comprehensive assistance and active engagement in negotiations aimed at facilitating Uzbekistan's WTO membership aspirations.
As the discussions drew to a close, both parties mutually agreed to organize a webinar involving entrepreneurs from Uzbekistan and British experts. The primary objective of this initiative is to foster dialogue and collaboration geared towards amplifying Uzbekistan's export potential.
Earlier, it was reported that Israel has officially ratified Uzbekistan's membership in the World Trade Organization (WTO), marking a significant milestone in Uzbekistan's integration into the global trade community.
