The Eurasian Ice Hockey Tournament will be held in Ashgabat from 15 to 20 April 2024, with 10 national teams taking part, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports.
The competitions will be held at the capital's Winter Sports Complex, which can accommodate 10,000 spectators.
According to a decree issued by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the tournament is being held "to strengthen friendship and brotherhood, good neighbourliness between peoples, popularise physical culture and sport, and actively promote the principles of a healthy lifestyle in society".
Hockey began to develop in sunny Turkmenistan in 2011. The national federation joined the International Ice Hockey Federation in May 2015. Currently, there are around 200 athletes in the country who play this spectacular game professionally.
The National Cup is contested annually by six teams - "Galkan" - Ministry of Internal Affairs, "Nesil" - Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, "Shir" - Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations, "Watanchi" - Military Institute of the Ministry of Defence, "Oguzhan" - State Concern "Turkmengaz" and "Merdana" - State Border Service.
