The International Hotel Tashkent was abuzz with discussions and agreements as the International Institute of Central Asia, in collaboration with the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Uzbekistan, hosted a conference “Uzbekistan and China: promoting mutually beneficial cooperation for the benefit of the peoples of the two countries,” IICA reported.
Attended by over 200 representatives from governmental ministries, leading analytical institutions, and business entities from both Uzbekistan and China, the conference showcased the growing partnership between the two nations. Participants included prominent Chinese companies such as “China Energy,” “BYD Uzbekistan Factory,” “Power China,” “ZTE Investment,” and “Asia Trans Gas,” among others.
The conference aimed to shed light on the outcomes of the recent state visit of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to China, highlighting the substantial agreements reached during his negotiations with President Xi Jinping. It underscored the pivotal role these agreements play in bolstering Uzbek-Chinese relations and fostering regional stability and development.
Key discussions centered around ongoing projects spanning various sectors, including green energy, oil and gas, IT, automotive, and cultural exchange. Participants emphasized the significant strides made in bilateral cooperation, underscoring its positive impact on socio-economic development, technology transfer, job creation, and infrastructure enhancement.
In his address, Javlon Vakhabov, Managing Director of the International Institute of Central Asia (IICA), stressed the conference's objective of elucidating the tangible benefits accruing from high-level agreements and ongoing projects. He highlighted the critical role of business collaborations in addressing socio-economic challenges and advancing technological innovation.
Chinese Ambassador Yu Jun reaffirmed China’s commitment to deepening ties with Uzbekistan, acknowledging the country's rapid economic growth and international stature under President Mirziyoyev’s leadership. He underscored the strategic importance of bilateral cooperation in China’s foreign policy agenda.
Experts from Chinese research institutions commended Uzbekistan's role as a trailblazer in Sino-Central Asian relations and lauded President Xi Jinping’s transformative initiatives, including the Green Silk Road and the Health Silk Road, unveiled during his visits to Uzbekistan.
The conference also spotlighted burgeoning prospects in tourism, education, and cultural exchange. The significance of youth engagement in fostering bilateral ties was underscored, with scholars highlighting the pivotal role of youth in driving cooperation and fostering greater understanding between the two nations.
In the realm of commerce, representatives from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Chinese Enterprises in Uzbekistan expressed optimism about expanding trade relations and facilitating business interactions through organized visits and enhanced networking platforms.
Proposals were made to augment project financing, establish a representative office of the Export-Import Bank in Uzbekistan, and launch a new investment platform with the Silk Road Fund, underscoring the commitment to bolstering infrastructure and industrial cooperation.
The conference concluded with a collective resolve to further deepen mutually beneficial cooperation across various sectors, laying the groundwork for annual Regional Cooperation Forums to be hosted alternately in China and Uzbekistan, thereby fostering sustained economic growth and prosperity for both nations.
