A protocol was signed following a meeting of the Turkmen-Iranian intergovernmental commission on consular, border and customs issues in Tehran, Iran, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports.
The Turkmen delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Ahmed Gurbanov and the Iranian side by his counterpart Alireza Bikdeli. The parties exchanged opinions on the current state and prospects of bilateral relations and emphasized the need for strict implementation of all reached agreements.
Iran and Turkmenistan, neighbours on the Caspian Sea, share a 1,100 km land border. Turkmenistan has four checkpoints on its border with Iran: near Bajigiran, Lutfabad, Incheburun and Sarakhs.
Experts told Daryo that the Iranian side is interested in establishing border markets near Turkmenistan to develop cooperation with Central Asian countries.
