The 6th session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6) kicked off in Nairobi, Kenya, on February 26, drawing delegates from across the globe to address pressing environmental challenges, the Ministry of Ecology reported. Led by Uzbekistan's Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, Aziz Abdukhakimov, the delegation from Uzbekistan actively participates in the Assembly's proceedings, which run from February 26 to March 1.
This year's UNEA-6 places an emphasis on the role of multilateralism in confronting the triple planetary crisis encompassing climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. With a foundation rooted in robust scientific evidence, political commitment, and societal engagement, the Assembly serves as a pivotal platform for governments, civil society, scientists, and the private sector to shape global environmental policies.
The agenda for the five-day session encompasses plenary discussions, and specialized side events focusing on various environmental issues such as human mobility in the face of climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss, alongside current affairs deliberations, press conferences, and high-level dialogues.
Minister Aziz Abdukhakimov is slated to engage in several bilateral meetings during the event, aiming to fortify collaborative efforts in environmental protection and biodiversity conservation. These discussions underscore Uzbekistan's commitment to international cooperation in combating environmental degradation and fostering sustainable development.
As the preeminent global authority on environmental matters, UNEA endeavors to foster equilibrium between humanity and the natural world, enhancing the welfare of the planet's most marginalized populations. As the sole forum with universal membership dedicated to environmental discourse, UNEA offers a distinct platform for innovative solutions and bold decisions to craft a comprehensive framework for collective environmental stewardship. In doing so, UNEA-6 aims to advance the attainment of sustainable development objectives.
