The Civil Aviation Agency of Uzbekistan granted authorization to the Turkish airline AJet, formerly known as AnadoluJet, to operate regular flights to the country. This move is part of a broader trend of increasing air connectivity between Turkey and Uzbekistan. AJet has been given the rights to operate flights on the Ankara - Tashkent - Ankara route.
The route will be served by the Boeing 737-800 aircraft, an airliner with a capacity of a maximum of 189 passengers. This comes after AnadoluJet, a part of Turkish Airlines, had previously received permission to fly to the republic.
Last summer, AnadoluJet operated weekly flights between the capitals of Uzbekistan and Turkey. In September 2023, Uzaviation granted permission for regular flights to SunExpress, a joint venture between Turkish Airlines and Germany’s Lufthansa. SunExpress launched flights between Izmir and Samarkand in November.
Earlier, Daryo reported that Air Samarkand plans to increase its fleet to 8 Airbus aircraft by the end of 2024. While the airline currently operates charter flights, regular flights are set to begin at the end of March, coinciding with the start of the summer navigation season.
Istanbul, a vital hub, features prominently in the airline’s plans. Under the leadership of Anton Khojayan, the airline’s CEO, Air Samarkand plans to enhance its operations and connectivity in the coming years. Khojayan identified China, Malaysia, and Indonesia as potential destinations for expansion. Additionally, the company aims to establish routes to the Middle East and Europe. Although specific launch dates remain undisclosed.
