In a resolute commitment to environmental sustainability, Uzbekistan's ambitious "Yashil Makon" (Green Space) project continues to flourish, with over 600 hectares transformed into vibrant green gardens across the nation, the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change reported.
Initiated by the nation's leadership and embraced as a tradition, the "Yashil Makon" project sees the annual planting of tree seedlings throughout the country. Spearheaded by the State Unitary Enterprise "Yashil Hudud" under the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, the project aims to enhance greenery and foster a healthier environment.
In the year 2023 alone, "green gardens" bloomed in every region of Uzbekistan, totaling more than 600 hectares of verdant landscapes. These green sanctuaries were meticulously cultivated in various districts and cities, contributing to the nation's environmental rejuvenation efforts.
In a detailed breakdown, "green gardens" adorned 16 districts and cities of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, 13 districts and cities of the Andijan region, 5 districts and cities of the Bukhara region, 11 districts and cities of the Jizzakh region, and 11 districts and cities in the Kashkadarya region, among others.
The scope of the project extends beyond traditional gardening, with collaborative efforts yielding remarkable results. Partnering with the Zamin International Public Foundation as part of the Green Earth project, thousands of trees found roots in Tashkent's Yangikhayot and Chilanzar districts during the spring planting season. This endeavor continued into the autumn season, with additional seedlings finding homes in Almazar and Yangikhaet districts.
Moreover, strategic alliances with ministries and banks facilitated the planting of over 77,000 almond tree seedlings across mountainous and foothill territories in the Bostanlyk district.
The scale of the "Yashil Makon" project is staggering, with more than 1,200 hectares of "green gardens" and public parks, alongside 1 mn hectares of green spaces and sidewalks, crafted since its inception. The project has seen the planting of over 500 mn trees, with a staggering 200 mn planted in the year 2023 alone.
In a bid to modernize and digitize the nation's greenery, "Yashil Makon" also embarked on the ambitious task of digitizing and certifying Uzbekistan's trees. This monumental effort, in accordance with a presidential decree, saw over 250 mn trees accounted for and meticulously mapped across the country.
The certification process, employing cutting-edge technologies and international standards, involved a meticulous three-stage procedure. From aerial imagery for tree counting to the establishment of a comprehensive database capturing vital details, each tree received a unique identification number and digital passport through the "Yashil Makon" electronic platform.
