Deliveries of Chinese passenger cars to Uzbekistan saw a substantial surge in 2023, totalling 92,700 units, which marked a 5.8-fold increase compared to the previous year, as reported by Tazabek.
In monetary terms, the indicator experienced remarkable growth, expanding by 5.7 times to reach $1.7bn. It is noteworthy that the average cost of a car stood at $18,200, reflecting the prevailing market conditions.
Imports of Chinese electric cars also witnessed notable growth, increasing by 4.2 times to reach 28,400 units during the same period. This growth in electric vehicle imports highlights Uzbekistan's growing interest in sustainable mobility solutions.
In 2023, Uzbekistan recorded the sale of 379,000 new passenger cars, demonstrating a noteworthy 33% growth rate compared to the previous year. Sales of new foreign cars experienced a significant surge, reaching 46,000 units, a 2.4-fold increase, indicating a rising demand for international automotive brands in the country.
Joint investment agreement for local car production
Earlier, it was reported that JSC Toshkent Invest Kompaniyasi and the Chinese company JAC recently signed an investment agreement to establish a car production facility in Tashkent, as announced by the capital's authorities. This collaboration underscores Uzbekistan's commitment to developing the domestic automotive industry and fostering international partnerships.
