More than 40 high-ranking former Israeli national security officials, prominent scientists, and business leaders have sent a letter to the Israeli president and parliament speaker demanding the removal of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, CNN reports.
Prominent signatories
The signatories include four former directors of Israel’s foreign and internal security services, two former heads of the Israel Defense Forces, and three Nobel laureates.
The letter criticizes the coalition Netanyahu assembled to form what is considered Israel’s most right-wing government in history. It also criticizes his highly controversial efforts to overhaul Israel’s judiciary.
The letter mentions that Netanyahu caused the security breach as a result of the October 7 attacks, which is considered the deadliest day in Israel’s history.
The letter states: “We hold Netanyahu responsible for the conditions that led to the brutal massacre of more than 1,200 Israelis and others, the injury of more than 4,500 people, and the abduction of more than 230 people. More than 130 of the abducted Israeli citizens are still in the captivity of Hamas.”
Earlier, it was reported that Benjamin Netanyahu publicly declared his opposition to the establishment of a Palestinian state, rejecting a U.S. push for a two-state solution. Speaking at a press conference in Tel Aviv on January 18, Netanyahu emphasized the priority of Israel's security concerns in any future arrangement.
