Samarkand, a city in Uzbekistan, is set to receive $61.9 mn for the acquisition of electric buses and the enhancement of associated infrastructure, as per to a presidential decree released on January 23.

The planned initiatives include the refurbishment of the city's bus parks and the construction of energy supply facilities. A significant portion of the funds will be allocated for procuring 100 electric buses and establishing 50 charging stations. These acquisitions, totaling $29.7 mn, will be sourced from the Chinese company Yutong.
To manage the electric buses effectively, a leasing arrangement with the private sector will be established through a competitive tender process. The lease agreements will be structured as gross contracts spanning seven years.
