The State Assets Management Agency (SAMA) has clarified the mandatory conditions for the privatization of the Sharq publishing house, the complex of which includes buildings and structures built between 1914 and 1983.
In particular, in order to preserve an important monument of modernism, which reflects the historical architecture of Tashkent, the following basic conditions of sale have been determined:
- Preservation of the historical architectural appearance of the administrative building of the National Information Agency of Uzbekistan (UzA) and the four-story administrative building at the intersection of Bukhara and Buyuk Turon streets (part of the Alisher Navoi Theater);
- Implementation of further construction, repair and reconstruction work in agreement with the Cultural Heritage Agency.
This means that the buyer ensures the preservation of the historical architectural appearance of these parts of the property complex and carries out repair work in agreement with the Cultural Heritage Agency.
If the buyer violates these conditions, the issue of privatization is reviewed in accordance with the requirements of the contract.
“We ask the public not to worry, and also inform you that work on the privatization of the property complex will be carried out strictly in compliance with the above requirements, and the public will be informed about each stage of the privatization process,” - SAMA reports.
The Cultural Heritage Agency also said it has prepared an application to include modernist buildings in Tashkent (including the UzA building) on the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Earlier, it was reported that the buildings of the "Sharq" publishing house in Tashkent have been officially removed from Uzbekistan's list of tangible cultural heritage sites.
