Doha, the capital of the State of Qatar, played host to a summit meeting and negotiations on January 22, as part of the state visit of the esteemed President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, the presidential press service reported. The discussions, spearheaded by President Rahmon and His Highness the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, began with a special meeting of the heads of state and continued with the active participation of official delegations from both Tajikistan and Qatar.
President Rahmon regarded the meeting as a significant continuation of the high-level political dialogue between the two nations. This event was underscored as an important milestone in the ongoing relationship between Tajikistan and Qatar.
The head of state emphasized Tajikistan's keen interest in further developing friendly relations and fostering beneficial cooperation with the State of Qatar across various areas of mutual interest. Notably, President Rahmon highlighted the solid legal and contractual foundation established by a package of new cooperation documents signed during the visit of the Emir of Qatar to Tajikistan last summer. These documents set the stage for the expansion of long-term relations between the two amicable countries.
During the conversation, President Rahmon proposed the establishment of new mechanisms to enhance cooperation, suggesting the formation of a joint working group. This group would be tasked with studying and defining priority areas of cooperation, alongside the creation of the Qatar-Tajikistan Joint Investment Foundation.
Joint efforts were emphasized during the meeting, with both parties expressing hope for greater development and cooperation in various fields, including commercial and economic sectors. Recognizing the extensive investment opportunities in Tajikistan, the leaders discussed the need to attract capital for projects spanning energy, light industry, food, mining, pharmaceuticals, transport, agriculture, and tourism.
A notable proposal included the launch of joint transport-transit projects to expand logistics networks between the two nations. This initiative aimed to facilitate the transportation of cargo and passengers while providing transit routes to other countries.
Education, science, and culture were highlighted as crucial elements in strengthening human relations between Tajikistan and Qatar. The leaders expressed a mutual commitment to enhancing cooperation in these fields.
Special attention was devoted to the international and regional situation during the meeting. The leaders acknowledged the effective cooperation within the framework of international organizations, signifying the collaborative spirit between the two nations.
