The Emir has recently announced a significant initiative for the construction of 76 mosques along various travel routes. This initiative is not only a religious endeavour but also a strategic economic move with potential benefits for local communities and the national economy.
Distribution of mosques
The distribution of these mosques, as provided by the official representative of the Ministry of Public Works, is as follows:
- Herat: 8
- Farah: 6
- Bamiyan: 5
- Gor, Badakhshan, Faryab, Kandahar, Paktia: 4 each
- Nimroz, Maidan-Wardak, Nangarhar, Badghis, Kunduz: 3 each
- Zabul, Ghazni, Helmand, Paktika, Baghlan, Samangan, Jawzjan: 2 each
- Logar, Khost, Laghman, Kunar, Parvan, Balkh, Takhar, Kapisa: 1 each
Facilities and Amenities
These mosques will be equipped with facilities such as cold and hot water, electricity, parking, and parks. The plan is to have at least one such mosque every 70 km along the route, providing travellers with places of worship and rest.
Economic and social impact
The construction industry plays a unique role in economic growth and has a huge impact on both the economy and society. This initiative is expected to stimulate the local economy, create jobs, and promote the development of related industries such as construction materials, interior design, and maintenance services.
Moreover, these mosques will serve as community centres, fostering social cohesion and promoting cultural exchange. They will also provide travellers with a sense of peace and sanctuary.
Environmental considerations
In line with global trends towards sustainable development, modern mosque designs often incorporate energy-saving and water-conservation strategies. It would be beneficial to consider such strategies in the construction of these new mosques to minimize environmental impact and operational costs.
