Significant grant for significant cause
Kyrgyzstan and the Global Fund have signed a contract for a $27.8 mn grant for the treatment of tuberculosis and AIDS, as per 24.kg. This significant move was reported by Aybar Sultangaziyev, Director of the Health Program Association "Partnership Network".
The contract, which was signed at the end of last week, includes provisions for the treatment and diagnosis of tuberculosis ($1 mn per year), provision of medicines ($8 mn), AIDS service support (more than $3 mn), and preventive programs ($5 mn). The grant is signed for 2024-2026.
Contract comes into force
The contract was signed by Minister of Health Alymkadyr Beishenaliev and UNDP Resident Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic Alexandra Solovyova, and was subsequently sent to Geneva.
Representatives of the Global Fund met in early December with Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Edil Baysalov, the Minister of Health, deputies, and the civil sector. The meeting aimed to assess the readiness of the country to sign the contract and provide recommendations.
Previously, it was reported that the Global Fund was stopping funding for AIDS programs. This was due to the absence of representatives of Kyrgyz government agencies at the meeting at the Global Fund in Geneva to discuss the details of the country's application for 2024-2026. However, the Global Fund had approved $27.8 mn funding for the CD until 2026.
