Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk met with his Turkmen counterpart Rashid Meredov in Moscow.
The Russian government reports that the parties discussed preparations for the meeting of the intergovernmental commission and the Russian-Turkmen Business Forum scheduled to be held in Turkmenistan in January 2024.
Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry said in a press release that the interlocutors noted the importance of improving the legal framework and raised the issue of diversifying business partnership.
About 200 companies with Russian capital are registered in the local market. The leading partners include KAMAZ, Tatneft, Vozrozhdenie and Gazprom.
Russia is buying Turkmen gas under a five-year contract signed in 2019 after a three-year hiatus. Gazprom has committed to purchase up to 5.5bn cubic metres of gas per year.
Lukoil is negotiating the terms of its participation as operator to develop the Dostluk oil and gas condensate field in the Caspian Sea.
Inter RAO and Power Machines expect to sign contracts for the modernisation and construction of new power plants in Turkmenistan. United Shipbuilding Corporation proposes to build several cargo and passenger ferries.
Turkmenistan is actively cooperating with Russian regions such as St Petersburg, Tatarstan and Astrakhan.
