From November 28 to December 1, the Uzbekistan Textile Association (UzTextile) is set to fortify its connections with the UK and spotlight the burgeoning opportunities within Uzbekistan's textile sector.
Mirmukhsin Sultanov, the first deputy chairman of the Uzbekistan Textile Association, expressed the significance of this delegation visit, stating,
"It’s a hugely exciting time to be bringing a delegation of Uzbekistan’s leading clothing and textile manufacturers to the UK in order to build relationships and showcase our capabilities as the sector rapidly develops and modernises in line with global best practice."
Uzbekistan's textile industry boasts several competitive advantages, including prices up to 3.5 times more economical than Turkey and delivery times 2.5 times faster than Bangladesh. The sector benefits from a substantial 70% reimbursement of delivery costs to Europe and a 0% import tax on Uzbek textiles entering the UK.
This upcoming visit marks a pivotal moment in the trajectory of Uzbekistan’s textile sector, which has undergone significant transformation since 2017. Investments in skills and technology, coupled with adherence to global best practices in labor markets, have positioned the industry for growth.
Sultanov emphasized Uzbekistan's commitment to international labor standards, noting,
"In 2022, our country’s textile industry was confirmed free of any form of unsustainable work practice."
Key players in Uzbekistan's textile industry, including major manufacturers like Samarkand Apparel and Bukhara Cotton Textile, have garnered accreditation from prominent international certification bodies such as ISO, BSCI, CE, and compliance with Better Cotton standards.
These manufacturers offer fully integrated production capabilities, covering the entire spectrum from fabric knitting to garment creation and export.
As part of the visit, the Uzbekistan Textile Association will actively participate in the Uzbek-British Trade and Industry Council. The association will engage in a panel discussion on November 28, focusing on "Uzbekistan’s Exports Textiles and Produce and the Developing Countries Trading Scheme."
This platform provides a unique opportunity for attendees to interact with representatives from major Uzbek textile companies, fostering an exchange of experiences and discussions on potential collaborations.
Mirmukhsin Sultanov highlighted the distinct advantage of Uzbekistan’s textile industry, stating,
"The great advantage of Uzbekistan’s textile industry is that our clusters include a complete production chain: from growing cotton to producing finished textiles."
