Kazakhstan made a significant mark at the 6th China International Import Exhibition (CIIF) in Shanghai, as Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov, alongside other international delegates, explored the national pavilions highlighting the country's investment, trade, and industrial potential. The event aimed to promote economic cooperation and investment opportunities between Kazakhstan and China, as well as with other global partners.
The national pavilion showcased a wide range of investment prospects, with a special focus on agriculture, tourism, logistics, exports, and innovation. High-profile guests, including government leaders from Australia, China, Cuba, and Serbia, were introduced to Kazakhstan's export potential, including grains, oils, fats, and other food products, as well as promising investment projects, railway routes, and key tourist attractions.
Arman Shakkaliev, Minister of Trade and Integration, highlighted the remarkable progress in Kazakh-Chinese trade relations:
"Today (November 5), 21 protocols have been signed between our country and China on the export of Kazakh agricultural and food products, which has made it possible to significantly increase the supply of agricultural products to China. At the same time, Kazakhstan can expand the volume of exports of environmentally friendly agricultural products to the Chinese market. The export potential for vegetable oils and meal alone is $300mn."
The presentation emphasized Kazakhstan's potential in livestock products, such as beef, lamb, and poultry, which holds significant opportunities for further development.
Trade logistics between Kazakhstan and China have also been expanding rapidly. The "Western Europe - Western China" transit road corridor, spanning railways, roads, and aviation, allows goods to reach Europe in just 10-12 days. Kazakhstan's ambitions to become a vital transport and logistics hub are clear, with ongoing projects such as the logistics terminal in the port of Lianyungang and the construction of the Kazakh terminal in the dry port of Xi'an, scheduled to begin in May 2023.
Over the next three years, Kazakhstan plans to build 1,300 kilometers of new railway tracks, open the 3rd railway checkpoint on the Chinese border, and establish new dry ports like "Bakhty" and "Kalzhat." These efforts aim to create favorable conditions for the transportation of goods to Europe and the Middle East, solidifying Kazakhstan's position in the global trade landscape.
Delegates were also introduced to various Kazakh organizations and centers, including Kazakh Invest, Kazakh Export, the Khorgos International Center for Cross-Border Cooperation, the Astana International Financial Center, and the Astana Hub Technology Park.
In the commercial pavilion "From Agro-Industrial Complex to Innovation," more than 30 Kazakh enterprises participated in the exhibition, showcasing a diverse range of food and agricultural products. Companies like "Bayan Sulu," "Mareven Food Tien-Shan," "Mibeko," "Almaty Product," "Sultan Marketing," "Eurasia Invest," "Ust-Kamenogorsk Creamery," "DEP," and "Bacchus" showcased their offerings.
Mareven Food Tien Shan, which produces over 47,000 tons of finished products annually, including instant noodles, pasta, mashed potatoes, seasonings, drinks, and snacks, is eager to establish a presence in the Chinese market.
Eurasia Invest, known for its dried camel and mare's milk products, has been participating in the exhibition for six consecutive years and has found permanent partners in China. The company's representative, Meruert Rakhimberdieva, highlighted the high demand for camel milk in China and their commitment to preserving the product's quality through German drying technology.
“Camel milk is sold quite successfully in China. The Chinese consumer places high demands on product quality. German drying technology allows us to preserve all the beneficial properties of milk and ensure the quality of the product,” she noted.
Over the past five years, Kazakhstan's participation in the China International Import Exhibition has led to the conclusion of lucrative export contracts worth more than $260mn. This underlines the growing economic ties between Kazakhstan and China, facilitated by events like the CIIF, which is considered a crucial "window" to access the Chinese market.
The 6th CIIF brought together 69 countries and 3,000 companies, reinforcing its role as a significant platform for fostering international economic collaboration and opening doors to the vast Chinese market.
