The Swedish police are currently investigating two explosions that occurred on September 26 in residential buildings.
According to Euronews, the incidents took place in a suburb of Stockholm and in Linkoping, a city located northwest of the capital. In the Stockholm suburb, three people were injured, while in Linkoping, the facade of a three-story building was ripped apart, causing injuries to a woman.
Preliminary findings suggest that these explosions are the result of an ongoing war between two drug trafficking gangs. However, no formal charges have been filed, and no arrests have been made as of now.
Anne-Christine Renstrom, the chief of the local police, refrained from providing specific details due to the early stages of the investigation. However, she did acknowledge that criminal groups operating in Sweden are not confined to major cities but also have a presence in smaller cities like Linkoping.
This surge in violence related to rival criminal gangs has been a concern in Sweden for several years. Since the beginning of this year alone, more than 120 explosions associated with gang activities have been recorded. Additionally, clashes between criminals have led to the tragic deaths of 36 individuals.
To address this issue, the Swedish government is considering long-term measures to combat organized crime. One area of focus is tightening the control and regulation of explosive substances.
