Reports from local residents indicate that there is a widespread power outage in various regions of Tajikistan, as reported by ASIA-Plus.
Residents in cities such as Tursunzade, Penjikent, Bohtar, Kulob, Dushanbe, as well as rural areas of Tajikistan, have experienced power cuts, both during the day and at night.
Local power utility workers attribute these outages to maintenance work being carried out in preparation for the upcoming winter. However, the population has not been adequately informed or warned about these interruptions, according to ASIA-Plus.
The disruptions in electricity supply are also linked to increased incidents of energy theft during distribution, as reported by the publication.
According to energy companies in Tajikistan cited by ASIA-Plus, the total losses in the first half of this year amounted to slightly over 2.4Bn kWh, a figure similar to the same period in 2022.
Tajikistan typically imposes electricity rationing, which usually lasts from the beginning of October until the end of winter and affects a significant portion of the country's territory. The rationing was first introduced in 1996.
