Uzbekistan has experienced a significant decrease in gas exports to China, with a 40% decline in natural gas supply compared to the previous year. According to data from the General Customs Administration of China, the export of Uzbek natural gas to China brought in over $370mn in the first eight months of the year.
In August, gas supplies from Uzbekistan to China amounted to $75.27mn, an 18% decrease compared to July. This decline follows two consecutive months of increasing gas exports from Uzbekistan. Overall, the natural gas export to China from Uzbekistan in January-August was valued at $370.57mn, a 40% drop compared to last year.
Turkmenistan remains the leading gas supplier to China, with exports amounting to $6.63bn in the first eight months of the year, a 5% increase compared to the previous year. Russia comes in second place, nearly doubling its gas exports to China, reaching $4.46bn. Myanmar and Kazakhstan follow with gas exports valued at $993mn and $782mn, respectively.
According to the State Statistics Committee, Uzbekistan exported gas abroad worth $341.9mn in the first seven months, more than a third less than the previous year.
Recently, there have been discussions about limiting the price of gas at CNG filling stations to UZS 3,250 per cubic meter.
