In an unprecedented event, the Mexican Congress conducted a hearing on September 12 dedicated to Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), commonly referred to as UFOs. The proceedings took a remarkable turn when attendees were shown two mysterious artifacts, purportedly the remains of extraterrestrial beings, marking Mexico's first-ever congressional inquiry into the UFO phenomenon.
The event, known as the Forum on Anomalous Aerial Phenomena and National Security (FANI in Spanish), featured a dramatic presentation by prominent Mexican journalist and long-time UFO enthusiast, Jaime Maussan. Maussan claimed that the two enigmatic specimens, presented in glass cases, were recovered near Peru's ancient Nazca Lines in 2017. According to him, these otherworldly remains date back approximately 1,000 years, as determined by carbon dating conducted by Mexico's National Autonomous University (UNAM).
The alleged extraterrestrial bodies, as displayed by Maussan, had distinctive characteristics that set them apart from terrestrial lifeforms. They possessed elongated heads and three fingers on each hand, leading Maussan to assert that they had no biological connection to any known Earthly species. While similar discoveries in the past have sometimes proven to be mummified human remains, Maussan claimed that this was the first time such evidence of this nature had been presented.
"I think there is a clear demonstration that we are dealing with non-human specimens that are not related to any other species in our world and that all possibilities are open for any scientific institution... to investigate it. We are not alone," Maussan asserted during the hearing, leaving the audience in awe and contemplation.
Jose de Jesus Zalce Benitez, Director of the Scientific Institute for Health of the Mexican Navy, attested to the extensive scientific analysis conducted on these remains. X-rays, 3-D reconstructions, and DNA analysis were all part of the rigorous examination process. Benitez confidently stated,
"I can affirm that these bodies have no relation to human beings."
However, the scientific community's response to these claims has been cautious. UNAM, on September 14, reissued a statement originally released in 2017, clarifying that their National Laboratory of Mass Spectrometry with Accelerators (LEMA) had only aimed to determine the age of the samples, refraining from drawing conclusions regarding their origin.
The hearing also featured testimony from former U.S. Navy pilot Ryan Graves, who shared his personal experiences with UAP and the challenges associated with reporting such sightings. This event marks another step in the growing global interest in UAP, particularly in the wake of the U.S. government's shift towards transparency and investigation.
Congressman Sergio Gutierrez, representing President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's ruling Morena party, expressed his hopes that this hearing would be the first of many such events in Mexico.
"We are left with reflections, with concerns and with the path to continue talking about this," Gutierrez remarked.
In recent years, the U.S. government has taken a more open approach to the topic of UAP, with the Pentagon actively investigating reported sightings by military personnel and NASA conducting its own inquiry. NASA is set to present its findings from the study on September 14, which is anticipated with great interest.
While the hearing garnered significant attention and intrigue, it also faced immediate skepticism and criticism from skeptics who questioned the authenticity of Maussan's presentation. Some wondered why the evidence was not subjected to peer review and published in a scientific paper before being presented to the public.
As Mexico grapples with the implications of this extraordinary event, one thing remains clear: the debate surrounding UFOs and extraterrestrial life continues to captivate minds and spark curiosity both within and beyond its borders. Whether these alleged extraterrestrial remains prove to be genuine or not, the quest for answers regarding the existence of life beyond our planet persists.
