Tashkent, Uzbekistan has made it into the list of the top 10 cities in the world with the most polluted air, as reported by IQAir.
On September 10, a monitoring station recorded a reading of 120 in Uzbekistan due to a dusty storm. The concentration of PM2.5 in Tashkent exceeded the standard by a staggering 8.7 times.
According to an inquiry by "Gazeta.uz" to Uzbekistan's Hydrometeorology Service (Uzhydromet), cool and relatively humid air masses that had formed in the Caucasus over the past week made their way into the northwestern regions of Uzbekistan, and on September 11th, they spread across the rest of the country.
The wind lifted dust particles from the parched ground, resulting in hazy air and reducing visibility to as low as 1400 meters. PM10 particles were 2.4 times above the World Health Organization's limit, and PM2.5 particles were a staggering 43 times higher than the allowable limit.
