In a significant step towards strengthening bilateral ties and promoting technological advancement, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon visited the Digital Government Office on August 26. The visit, part of Rahmon's official trip to Astana, aimed to explore Kazakhstan's pioneering achievements in digital governance.
During the visit, Kazakh Minister of Digital Development, Innovation, and Aerospace Industry Bagdat Mussin took the opportunity to showcase various IT platforms that have facilitated efficient collaboration between government bodies and citizens. Among the highlights was the eOtinish platform, which allows citizens to submit and track appeals, enhancing transparency and responsiveness in governance. Additionally, Mussin introduced the space monitoring system, a technological marvel that ensures transparency in subsoil use activities and identifies underutilized agricultural land.
One of the remarkable projects presented was the Digital Family Map initiative. This innovative endeavor harnesses data from 20 central government agency databases, incorporating 100 social well-being indicators. By proactively utilizing this data, the project aims to provide comprehensive social support, spanning healthcare, education, and social protection domains.
Following the productive discussions, the Kazakh Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation, and Aerospace Industry inked a memorandum of understanding with the Tajik Ministry of Industry and New Technologies. The memorandum outlines the intention to share Kazakhstan's rich experience in implementing digital government platforms with Tajikistan. Moreover, the document opens avenues for training Tajik specialists in advanced IT schools and research institutes across Kazakhstan, a move aimed at fostering mutual growth in digital expertise.
President Rahmon expressed his gratitude to President Tokayev for the invaluable assistance extended to Tajikistan in its digital technology endeavors. This gesture not only underscores the cooperative spirit between the two nations but also reinforces the belief in the transformative power of technology in driving sustainable development.
The visit was not limited to discussions on digital governance. After their time at the Digital Government Office, the two leaders paid a visit to the Astana Grand Mosque, a symbol of the cultural richness and shared heritage of the region. Supreme Mufti Nauryzbay Kazhy Taganuly recited passages from the Quran, extending wishes of peace and prosperity to the citizens of both countries.
Furthermore, the Presidents took the opportunity to explore an exhibition fair that showcased Tajik agricultural and industrial products, traditional crafts, and local cuisine. This event, organized as part of the Days of Tajik Culture, served as a platform for cultural exchange and economic collaboration.
The strong economic ties between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan were also highlighted during the visit. Trade turnover between the two nations reached an impressive $500 mn in the first half of the year. The leaders expressed mutual aspirations to elevate the volume of bilateral trade to a substantial $2 bn, a goal that attests to the growing economic partnership between the two countries.
As Kazakhstan shares its digital governance expertise with Tajikistan, this collaboration is poised to not only elevate technological capabilities but also fortify the bonds of friendship and cooperation that unite the two Central Asian nations.
