In the western Afghan city of Herat, a surge of people flocked to the passport office with hopes of obtaining documents following the Taliban's announcement of an increased quota.
According to Euronews, previously issuing around 100-150 passports per day, the present rate has surged to over a thousand. The office became overcrowded, leading the Taliban to fire shots into the air to disperse the crowd.
Just a month ago, restrictions were imposed on issuing passports for specific citizen categories.
This decision has triggered widespread discontent. Many urgently need passports to access medical aid, often traveling to neighboring Iran for healthcare.
Earlier Daryo reported that at the airport, Taliban officials discovered the student visas and tickets of these young women and declared that they were not allowed to leave the country using student visas.
