Uzbekistan urges Taliban to reduce transit duties

Uzbekistan urges Taliban to reduce transit duties

Nozimjon Kholmurodov, the Deputy Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan, led a delegation to Kabul for negotiations with Nureddin Azizi, the acting Minister of Trade of the Taliban. The discussions centered on key economic matters, including the reduction of transit duties, enhancement of trade, investments from Uzbekistan, border operations, and the implementation of previously agreed-upon arrangements. Kholmurodov's visit aimed to address crucial trade and transit issues affecting Uzbekistan's economic interests and regional connectivity, Sputnik Afghanistan reported on August 27.

One of the primary topics on the agenda was the plea from Tashkent to lower transit duties. Uzbekistan sought to emphasize the importance of facilitating smoother trade routes by decreasing such levies. This move not only reflects Uzbekistan's desire for more favorable trade conditions but also highlights the country's intent to strengthen economic ties with Afghanistan.

Furthermore, discussions extended to the realm of investments. Uzbekistan, recognizing the potential of the Afghan market, expressed its interest in making investments that could benefit both nations. The talks aimed to foster an environment conducive to increased economic cooperation and mutually beneficial growth.

Border checkpoint operations were also addressed in the negotiations. Kholmurodov proposed the introduction of round-the-clock operations at Afghan border checkpoints, a move that could streamline trade flows and enhance economic connectivity between the two nations.

The negotiations touched upon the fulfillment of agreements made in the past. Both parties highlighted the importance of honoring previous commitments, underscoring their shared goal of promoting stability and economic progress in the region.

A notable development discussed during the negotiations was the possibility of transit through Afghanistan via air networks. This innovation could potentially offer new avenues for trade and transportation, further contributing to regional economic integration.

Additionally, Uzbekistan and Pakistan's plan to establish a joint fund, in collaboration with the Taliban, for the maintenance of road infrastructure signifies the commitment to improving logistical and transportation networks. This effort not only enhances regional connectivity but also reflects a collaborative approach toward shared economic development.

Earlier Daryo mentioned that Iranian Parliamentary delegation arrived in Kabul to discuss border security.
