Tajikistan aims to increase its use of renewable energy sources like solar and wind power to produce up to 10% of its electricity by 2030.
According to Daler Juma, the country's Minister of Energy and Water Resources, four projects with capacities ranging from 50 MW to 450 MW have been identified for construction in the Sughd region, with feasibility studies currently underway. Financing sources for the projects will be identified by year-end.
Currently, Tajikistan relies on hydropower plants for up to 98% of its electricity, with 2022 seeing record levels of electricity generation in the country at around 21.4bn kW/h, according to the Ministry of Energy.
Earlier, Daryo reported that Uzbekistan faces energy challenges, resulting in planned power cuts. The country's Ministry of Energy is renovating infrastructure, including refurbishing transformer substations, constructing new power facilities, and replacing low-capacity transformers. Rising temperatures have strained the power supply, causing cable damage and transformer failures.
